The Ghost of Christmas Past!

It's difficult, don't you think, to live up to the Ghost of Christmas past.  You remember, the Christmas we,...You can't beat the Christmas of,...I'll  never have another Christmas like this one (which will become Christmas past).  We all have them don't we?  The perfect Christmas!  At least that's how we remember them.

We try to make everything perfect, the right gift for the right person, the best parties, the get togethers, the celebrations.  But, each one will eventually become the past.  And, how will we remember them.  Will they be something we strive to replicate at another time?

I feel nostalgic for Christmases of my childhood.  Not because they were so terrific, but, because some of the family members and friends who were at those Christmases are no longer with us and I miss them and Christmas is the prime time to remember them.  So, my Ghost of Christmas past has nothing to do with location, the amount of snow that fell on Christmas eve, the meals or even the gifts.  It's all about people.

It's always a joy to see Christmas through the eyes of a child.  The wonder and excitement that only the very young shamelessly exhibit.  My own children are grown and have children of their own and that too is an experience as I can watch them bask in the expressions of their own children's experiences of this season.  But, I like to have some of the more senior members of family and/or friends around at Christmas because they too have a special perspective on Christmas.

And, I'm glad we have a special day to remember the birth of Jesus.  His birth took place during a season of upheaval and stress too - sound like some of your experiences?  And even if his birth has been overshadowed by Santa and commercialism, we will remember and be thankful.  So, when I'm enjoying my Christmas with family and friends, I'm ever mindful of the reason for the season and feel very blessed indeed.  During all of your celebrations, don't forget the reason for the season.  Enjoy all! We'll be back to work soon.
